It Grows As It Goes

In the USA, "The Sixties", which is how we all call the 1960's, is the term used by historians, journalists and so on. This decade was marked by counterculture and social revolution, specially at the end of the decade. This era was described as full of irresponsible excess and flamboyance. Due to the fall of social taboos related to sexism and racism this era was also known as Swinging Sixties. Popular Culture: The counterculture had two major events, The Summer Love in San Francisco in 1967 and Woodstock Festival in New York in 1969. It was also the time of Psychedelic drugs like LSD which was popularized by Timothy Leary with his slogan "Turn on, tune in, drop out". Psychedelic influenced all kinds of art like music, movies and artwork. Music: The rise of counterculture movement created a market for rock, soul, blues, reggae and pop. 1. The 50's Style

Let's go back to the 50's. "By its end, the world had largely recovered from World War II and the Cold War developed from its modest beginning in the late 1940s to a hot competition between the United States and the Soviet Union by the beginning of the 1960s. Clashes between communism and capitalism dominated the decade, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. The conflicts included the Korean War in the beginnings of the decade and the beginning of the Space Race with the launch of Sputnik I . Along with increased testing of nuclear weapons (such as RDS-37 and Upshot-Knothole ), this created a politically conservative climate. In the United States, the Red Scare (fear of communism) caused public Congressional hearings by both houses in Congress and anti-communism was the prevailing sentiment in the United States throughout the decade. This morning, like midday, I woke up with this song on my mind... meanwhile I went to lunch and forgot about. Then I was listening to Spector and remembered it again. ^_^
